STILL LIFE PAINTING with Emma Burnett

STILL LIFE PAINTING.  On this 3 day course we will learn how to paint flowers, vases, cloths and backgrounds using watercolour, gouache or acrylic paints.  Your choice.

WHAT WE WILL LEARN.  We will learn about picture construction and how to go about composing and starting the painting.  You can work on canvas or on paper.  You bring your own materials.  If you are working on canvas, I suggest approximately 60cm x 60cm.  If you have any problem or questions about materials just phone me and I can help.

WHY PAINT A STILL LIFE.  Still Life painting is just great fun.  It brings out the child in me with the fun of doing some pattern making and designs

WATERCOLOURS and GOUACHE.  For those who do not know gouache, gouache paints are the same as watercolour but the pigment is simply mixed with a chalky opaque medium rather than a translucent medium.  Gouache can therefore be a bit easier to use because if you so something you don’t like you can cover it up.

ACRYLICS and OIL PAINTS.  We use acrylics to learn with because the drying time is very fast so they are good on a course.  Again with acrylics if you are not happy with something you’ve painted, you can completely paint over it and no one will know what lies beneath so they are great for having fun, learning and experimenting.  All that we learn can also be applied to painting in oils but the drying time is longer between each layer so acrylics are better to learn with.  We will learn about picture construction and how to go about composing and starting the painting.  You can work on canvas or on paper.  You bring your own materials and a canvas approximately 60cm x 60cm.  If you have any problem or questions about materials just phone me and I can help.

STILL LIFE INSPIRATION.  My own work is inspired by artists such as Henri Matisse, Jules Cavailles and Ivon Hitchens.  I have lots of their books here for inspiration.  I have also collected many lovely vases over the years that I use in my own paintings and we can raid the garden for flowers.
